There is at least a dozen solid ways to conduct keyword research, but none of them that I knew of can before last week can be done in 5 minutes or less and have 100% accurate results that I personally would be 100% confident in.

I am sure you might have heard of SpyFu, maybe you heard me talking about it or saw me mention it on one of my posts. But I was always using the free version of SpyFu as I did not feel it was necessary to pay for a feature which will show me the same exact results as Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
Boy was I wrong. After I saw this YouTube video about SpyFU, I decided to try it out.

So what did I get out of it? Here is how SpyFu Keyword SmartSearch compares to Google Keyword Tool compare?
1. Using Google Keyword Tool you can only see the overall keywords, you cant sort it by your competitors to see what they are ranking for and if more than one competitor is ranking for the same one.
2. Google Keyword Tool doesnt really have a sort and filer function like SpyFu. For example in SpyFu I can filter by Wheels +site:tirerack.com and see all the keywords that Tirerack is ranking for that contains the word wheels. Then I can say, I want 50 minimum clicks per day when I rank number one, I want keywords where 20 advertisers are bidding on the same keyword, and I want it sorted by the highest minimum click rate. In conclusion I end up with HOT KEYWORDS that dont really have a lot of organic competition, but do have a very high competition with PPC (Pay Per Click).
3. I can put the top 3 competitors into SpyFu Kombat, and I will get the overlapping keywords that all 3 of them are competing for and overlapping each other. Obviously if all 3 top players are competing for them, I want to see what they are and choose the best ones out of that pool to rank myself for those.
3. In addition once you get the top keywords from SpyFu Combat, you can easily see which one will produce the most traffic to your website.
SpyFu can also be used for your PPC campaign to steal proven ads (sales copy) from your top competitors and generate very specific ad groups. Since I dont really promote PPC, I am not going to get into this topic, but SpyFu has a lot of advice on how to do this using their tool.
All in All, I have found the answer to Keyword Research. I can find HOT, PROVEN keywords that I need to rank for and actually see results once they rank using my top competitors trial and error knowledge.
